GOP candidate for VA-07 Prince William Supervisor Yesli Vega launched her first ad in several months on Monday, with the primary just over a week away on June 21.
“I was leaving church with my family when I received the worst phone call of my life, that my brother had been gunned down and nearly killed by MS-13 gang members. I knew then that I would join law enforcement to protect others in need and defend our community,” Vega says in the ad.
The images in the ad shift from Vega and her brother to black-and-white images of Joe Biden, Representative Abigail Spanberger (D-VA-07), and crowds. Vega says, “But now Joe Biden and radical Democrats have opened our borders, causing a rise in drugs and crime in our communities. For me, it’s personal.”
Recent polling suggests that the race is closest between Vega and Senator Bryce Reeves (R-Spotsylvania). Reeves also is ahead in the most recent fundraising reports. But Derrick Anderson, a veteran, also has strong fundraising in the race, and Stafford Supervisor Crystal Vanuch is still slightly ahead of Vega in fundraising. Over the weekend, Vega’s team also highlighted a straw poll from a Culpeper County meeting that had Vega in the lead, followed by Anderson, Reeves, and Vanuch.
On Monday, Anderson announced an endorsement from Congressman Mike Garcia (R-CA-25), part of a broader pattern of military-related endorsements for Anderson.
Garcia said in the nomination, “Derrick Anderson is working incredibly hard to earn the nomination and go on to defeat Abigail Spanberger. As a former Green Beret and the only combat veteran in the race, Derrick is battle-tested and the fighter we need to join us in Congress. I am proud to support him in his race.”
